AMC Reflection
The Invisible Labor of Virtual Advocacy

A Mother’s Cry

There is a quiet misconception that virtual work is lighter work.

Because we sit behind screens, people assume we carry less weight. Because our labor is not physical, they imagine it is not costly. But advocacy does not lose its burden simply because it is done online.

At A Mother’s Cry, our work is emotional labor. It is moral labor. It is spiritual labor.

We listen to mothers whose hearts are breaking. We absorb stories of injustice, confinement, and separation. We navigate systems that often resist accountability. We engage legislators, support families in crisis, and hold space for grief that has no language. This work happens through screens, emails, and virtual meetings — but the weight is carried in the soul.

Virtual work removes the commute, not the calling.
It removes the office, not the responsibility.
It removes the physical strain, not the emotional cost.

For many advocates, the boundary between work and life disappears. The cries of the community enter our homes, our prayer time, our quiet moments. The labor becomes continuous — unseen but deeply felt.

This is the work of witness.
This is the work of justice.
This is the work of love in action.

And though the world may not always see the weight, we know that standing for the dignity and humanity of our incarcerated loved ones requires strength, endurance, and unwavering compassion.

The labor may be invisible.
But the impact is not.

Jamesina Greene

AMC was founded by Jami Greene, a single mother with a passion for her sons and a desire to help them fulfill their destiny. Her love and dedication are the foundation of AMC, and she strives to carry on her legacy by providing the needed support and resources to other mother's impacted by mass incarceration.

My Story

Many years ago, I was struck by the distinct reality that many mothers lacked the ability to "mother" effectively because of the personal deficits in their lives. I established AMC to address some of these deficits, realizing that our ability to be great mothers, directly correlated to our fulfillment as great women. MY "cry" is the structural foundation of "A Mother's Cry".

The evolution of "A Mother's Cry" is phenomenal and is providing positive change in the lives of many others. Today we are making life-altering changes in our communities through advocacy and support for mothers and families directly impacted by mass incarceration. Through community events; workshops; webinars, etc. we stand firmly in our mission to empower, inform, enlighten and uplift.
