Magdalena Tsiongas
Restorative Justice Advocate, Public Health Visionary, and Convener of the Maryland Second Look Coalition

Magdalena Tsiongas is the driving force behind the Maryland Second Look Coalition—a powerful alliance of formerly incarcerated individuals, impacted families, and justice reform advocates working to create second chances for people serving extreme sentences in Maryland. Her leadership is deeply personal and rooted in love: she founded the coalition to fight for the release of her partner, John, who has been serving a life without parole sentence since he was 19 years old.

Magdalena’s work is grounded in the belief that healing and accountability—not punishment—should be at the heart of justice. As a trained restorative justice practitioner and mediator, she facilitates community-based conflict resolution through dialogue, healing circles, and mediation between coworkers, co-parents, and community members. Her work uplifts the power of solidarity and human connection as tools for transformation.

Motivated by the intersection of justice and health, Magdalena earned her Master’s in Public Health to pursue community-centered solutions to issues often criminalized, such as drug use and gun violence. During her studies, she supported research on medical-legal partnerships to assist gun violence survivors and advocated for improved healthcare for incarcerated individuals.

Magdalena continues to lead with compassion, building a movement for second chances, dignity, and freedom. Learn more about her work and the Maryland Second Look Coalition at mdsecondlook.com.
