Byron Says...

Wisdom from behind the wall. Byron is a seer, a thinker, and a legacy breaker. As he continues through incarceration, he has not lost his connection to his family nor his roots. This page is a space for his wise words to inspire and transform.

"Mass Incarceration is Slavery. The chains may look different. The auction blocks may be gone. But the dehumanization and profit from pain remains."

Byron urges us to look beyond the surface and confront the truth. Mass incarceration mirrors the same systems of control that once sold human lives for profit — only now it is hidden behind legal language and modern institutions. If we are serious about ending this cycle, we must recognize how today’s prisons continue to extract labor, strip identity, and commodify suffering. Naming the truth is the first step toward dismantling it.

"Mass incarceration is not just a broken system - it is systemic genocide."

We cannot keep advocating only for the effects without naming the cause. The prison system was intentionally designed to remove two to three generations of Black and Brown men from our communities. By locking them up, society weakens families, dismantles communities, and destroys futures.

This genocide is not accidental - it is fueled through subliminal messaging aimed at our children. From video games that glorify shooting and killing, to music genres like drill that glamorize gangs and incarceration, the message is planted early: prison is inevitable.

But Byron reminds us: the system does not just punish - it conditions. We must refuse to let our children be groomed to believe incarceration is a goal, or worse, their destiny.
