Breaking Barriers: Supporting Moms with Incarcerated Children

The impact of mass incarceration goes beyond just the individuals serving time behind bars - it extends to their families, particularly their mothers. The burden and pain that these mothers carry are often overlooked but are very real. That's where one charitable organization based in Maryland comes in to offer a helping hand and a ray of hope.

Our mission is clear - to break down barriers and offer a comprehensive range of services to these mothers. From hosting community outreach events to providing valuable lifestyle resources, we are dedicated to addressing the various challenges faced by these mothers. One of the key aspects that set this organization apart is our holistic approach to supporting these mothers. We are not just sympathetic, but we are empathetic. We feel the emotional, physical and spiritual trauma experienced by the mothers and we are a voice for these unique needs. By acknowledging and addressing all these facets, this organization aims to provide a more well-rounded and effective support system for these mothers.

Thus far, 2024 has been a good year for "A Mother's Cry" and the manifestation of our mission. After many years of serving the community, we received our nonprofit charitable status which has blessed us with multiple opportunities to partner with others. We have had community events especially for children of incarcerated parents, which are the most vulnerable individuals impacted by mass incarceration.

As the face of "A Mother's Cry", I have been honored to do multiple interviews on local news outlets and to be a speaker on numerous platforms. I am proud to say that we are increasing our inmate advocacy, via a petition for a "Family Liaison" and emailing the Maryland Department of Corrections when we feel issues in the state prison must be addressed. In addition, we are growing a resources list for mothers of incarcerated children.
