Mothers are Crying Worldwide and We are Listening!

Daily I hear from mothers who are hurting and broken by the realities of having a child who is incarcerated. In addition, I hear from mothers who do not have a child behind the wall, yet they too are feeling overwhelmed and broken. What are the common denominators between these mothers? Each of them is living in a state of helplessness as they view the current state of the world.

It is innately embedded with us to want to protect, nurture and nourish our children. From the moment of conception, we understand that what we eat, what we drink, how we think, our very environment impacts the life growing in our womb and it is our responsibility to do what is best for this life inside of us. This sense of obligation does not change after we give birth. They may be released from our womb, but never from our heart.

Consequently, when we view the political unrest; rise in homelessness; exorbitant cost of living; substance abuse; mental health challenges; blatant hate, racism and bigotry, we want to gather our children into our arms and protect them. Regardless of their ages and personal circumstances.

Mothers, it is imperative that you focus on YOU as the priority. Your mental, physical and spiritual health must be at its best, despite the circumstances surrounding you. I completely understand the power and strength of a mother's love, and I also understand that the weight of it can be damaging if not handled properly. We are natural caregivers and worriers. Constantly at the ready to defend and be the answer for our children, especially in times of crisis. However, if you give all of yourself away, even to your children, you are left empty and soul weary.

Today, I admonish you to learn how to CARE for your children without CARRYING them. At some point your carrying them only defers and hinders their growth and development. Know when to let go while maintaining your divine assignment to be MOM.
